Zine

Self-Portrait Linocut

In the Zine project, I created a book based off about me. places I've been, things I'm interested in, etc. I enjoyed parts of the project, such as the designing process. The one thing I would do if I could go back and change something would be the quality and the patterns.

In the dry point etching project, we had to pick a photo consisting of various amounts of contrast between black and white. Afterwards, carve out the picture in a plastic glass sheet. I found the difficult thing being putting on the tar because it was tricky at times. If I could go back and redo something, I'd do my water coloring on my picture because it turned out really badly.

In the Self Portrait Linocut, we had to take / choose a picture of ourselves. It could've been silly, serious, etc. We then had to trace on the light board and trace the outlines of our face, nose, shoulders, and partially in the background. Next, we had to carve ourselves out and then do four prints that were good enough to make out that it was our face. The thing I found difficult about it was the carving process. If I could go back and change something I would say the carving tool usage. I primarily stuck with #5.

Dry Point Etching

Silkscreen printing consisted of us, first, drawing and creating our own designs, whether it be patterns or a drawing of some sort. It would later be shared with a group of our choosing and we could either combine all of our ideas, stick with one or put all of our brains together and come up with a cooler and even better design together. We then printed it out and traced over the lines and shaded everything in with sharpie. Finally we printed it out with ink and printed it on paper or a t-shirt to take home.

Silkscreen Printing

Mono Printing

Mono printing was similar to the printing process of the silkscreen. Through the process of putting layers of ink down and then putting paper on top of the ink and getting your image on the paper. This project was different from others because we did different layers of colored ink and had to combine different/unique shapes in the process to leave that affect of the previous color. The way I did my mono printing was using warm colors and then using unique shapes and placing them in different areas each time (well attempted to do so) and combine the colors to be more mixed and appealing to the eye, but the red was obviously dominant in the end.
